Brush Electrical Machines of Loughborough

Brush Electrical Machines of Loughborough

Brush or Brush Bagnall were the builders of the first mainline diesel electric locomotives of the Ceylon Government Railway, the Class M1 locomotives.

Brush also built the Class M7 locomotives which are still running on the Sri Lankan Railway.

Brush Electrical Machines, as they are now known, is still a thriving business in Loughborough, United Kingdom.
These photographs were taken very recently (27th of May 2012).

  1. Hello Gyan, its amazing the stuff that you write on railways, and things connected with Sri Lankan railways at that. It makes wonderful reading to fellow 'Ferroequinologists'. One could be excused for thinking you were working in the railways all your life, not the great forensic pathologist that you were!! Anyway talking of Brush, one cannot but associate the name of B D Rampala with that famous manufacturer. If not for him and the M1s, Brush would never have risen to be UK's one-time leading locomotive builder. But thats another story! All the best & Cheers.
